In this composition, Gabriel Jackson sets lines 155 to 166 from John Milton's poem, Il penseroso.

Though much of the work is SATB with some occasional divisions, the alto divides fromĀ  m. 36 to m. 49, the alto/tenor divides from m. 72-91 and m. 119 to m. 128, and the full chorus divides SSAATTBB for the climactic passage from m. 99 to m. 118.
